Ground motion characteristics and their cumulative impacts to burst risks in underground coal mines

چکیده

Abstract Ground motions resulting from seismic waves are one of the main factors to trigger coal burst hazards in underground mines. motion induced dynamic impacts may apply highly stressed coal/rock mass and initiate failure. Although ground analysis has been widely used burst-prone hard rock mines for designing support systems, there only few studies focusing on understanding characteristics their relationship with damage. Therefore, based nine-months monitoring a case study mine, this paper conducted thorough quantifying roadways both far-field near-field zones correlating strong actual The results showed that most were insignificant, which less likely However, same energy levels hypocentral distances, events can produce higher than those Compared motions, had much intensities. by failure or when it is already critically stressed. An index called number high ( NHGM ) was developed link risks roadways. roadway zone experienced long history intensive indicated degree , more expect bursts future. Article highlights Quantify Demonstrate between intensity Develop method forecast potential damage historical motions.

Gas Drainage Improvement in Underground Coal Mines

Effective gas management is vital to the success of the longwall mining in the Bulli seam, in the Southern Coalfield, Sydney Basin, NSW, Australia. The evolution of gas drainage methods and practices are discussed with respect to gas type, gas drainage lead time and prevailing geological conditions. Both underground to inseam drilling and surface to inseam drilling techniques are described at b...

Rock dusting considerations in underground coal mines

Rock dusting to prevent coal dust explosions has been in widespread use in U.S. underground coal mines since the early 1900s. Underground coal mining technology has changed significantly over this same time period, becoming highly mechanized and produces finer coal dust particles which are more explosive. Despite the advances in mining technology, mine-wide dust sampling practices have remained...

Overview of Ground Control Research for Underground Coal Mines in The United States

Underground coal mining continues to evolve in the U.S., and more reserves are being mined under deeper cover, with worse roof, or with interactions from previous workings. At the same time, the mining community is responding to higher safety standards and intense competitive pressures. The need for effective ground control design has never been greater. Ground control safety issues that have b...

Noise variability in underground room and pillar coal mines.

Noise in an underground coal mine has dominant components generated mainly from 3 sources: (a) continuous mining machines, (b) roof bolters, and (c) cars/vehicles used to transport personnel and/or coal. Each of these 3 noise sources also has a number of well-defined sub-sources with their own noise characteristics. Sound level meters were used to collect noise data in the form of instantaneous...
